TradingView is one of the most widely used charting platforms in the world. It runs in a web browser and on desktop and mobile apps, offers charts for stocks, crypto, forex, futures, indices and bonds from many exchanges, and adds a social layer where users publish ideas and scripts. Its scripting language, Pine Script, lets anyone build custom indicators and strategies. Many brokers integrate with it, so traders can place orders directly from its charts.

## Plans

TradingView offers a free tier with limits, such as fewer indicators per chart, fewer alerts and ads, plus several paid tiers that raise those limits and add features such as more charts per layout, intraday data exports, second based timeframes and webhook alerts. Some exchange data, especially real time data for certain stock and futures exchanges, costs extra. Plans and prices change, so check TradingView's current pricing page.

## Using TradingView well

1. **Set your chart's time zone and session** to match the market you trade. See [Timestamps, Time Zones and Daylight Saving](https://learn.tradelabsai.com/programming/timestamps-and-time-zones/).
2. **Check the data source** in the symbol name; a crypto pair can have different prices on different exchanges.
3. **Save chart layouts** for each strategy.
4. **Use server side alerts** so you do not need to watch every chart. See [Alerts and Webhooks](https://learn.tradelabsai.com/programming/alerts-and-webhooks/).
5. **Keep drawings clean:** key levels and trend lines only. See [Support and Resistance](https://learn.tradelabsai.com/price-action/support-and-resistance/).

**Example: Same symbol, different prices**
A trader charts Bitcoin on TradingView and sees a 1 hour candle closing at $64,210. A friend's chart shows $64,190 for the same hour. One chart uses an exchange's BTC/USDT pair; the other uses a different exchange's BTC/USD pair. Prices differ slightly across venues and quote currencies. For Polymarket's crypto rounds, the price that matters is the settlement source named in the market rules, which for some round lengths is a Chainlink feed and for others a Binance candle. Charting the right source avoids confusion. See [Price to Beat and How Rounds Settle](https://learn.tradelabsai.com/prediction-markets/price-to-beat/).

## Community scripts: use with care

The public library has thousands of free indicators and strategies. Quality varies widely. Before relying on one:

- **Check for repainting,** where historical signals look better than live ones. See [Pine Script Basics](https://learn.tradelabsai.com/programming/pine-script-basics/).
- **Read the code** if it is open source.
- **Test it on unseen data** before trusting performance claims. See [In-Sample vs Out-of-Sample Testing](https://learn.tradelabsai.com/research/out-of-sample-testing/).
- **Be wary of paid script sellers** promising high win rates. See [Identifying Trading Scams](https://learn.tradelabsai.com/start-here/identifying-trading-scams/).

## Strategy tester limits

The strategy tester is fast and convenient but simplifies fills, especially within bars, and depends on how commissions and slippage are set. Use it for quick idea checks; validate promising ideas with more realistic methods. See [Fill Models, Partial Fills and Order Queues](https://learn.tradelabsai.com/research/fill-models/).

## Who it suits

| Trader | Fit |
|---|---|
| Beginners | Excellent, with an easy interface and free tier |
| Multi market analysts | Excellent coverage |
| Crypto traders | Very popular, with data from many exchanges |
| Futures order flow traders | Fewer specialist tools than dedicated platforms. See [NinjaTrader](https://learn.tradelabsai.com/industry/ninjatrader/) |
| Algorithmic traders | Good for prototyping; execution needs broker integration or webhooks |
